            History of Tervis Tumbler
Tervis Tumbler's Timeline
How it all started…
The world’s first insulated tumbler was created in 1946 by Detroit engineering duo Frank Cotter & G. Howlett Davis.  Using the insulating properties of air, the two engineers created a permanently sealed, double-walled tumbler that kept cold drinks colder & hot drinks hotter longer than traditional drinkware.  The only thing missing from the virtually indestructible tumbler was a name.  But with a simple combination of the last three letters of Cotter & Davis’ names, the brand “Tervis®” was born.

…Withstood the test of time
The “original” Tervis tumbler was available in one size that was both tall and cylindrical.  Then, in the early 1950's, the tumbler’s shape was redesigned and additional sizes were introduced.  By constantly refining & improving on the original idea over the last half-century, the quality and durability of Tervis products continues to remain a cut above other insulated drinkware.  Today, Tervis offers six sizes of tumblers, along with an ice bucket.  This growing line is also met with a sizable & expanding selection of original designs, licensed artwork, wraps, color, etc.  This truly makes our tumblers perfect for anyone and everyone!

…Still family owned & operated
The Winslow family purchased the product rights in the 1950s and incorporated The Tervis Tumbler Company in 1967.  Today it operates as a family-owned private entity and employs more than 210 people in its manufacturing facility in North Venice, Florida.  In addition to this website, we have four Florida Factory Stores.  Tervis Tumblers are also widely available in department and specialty stores throughout the nation.  To find a retailer near you, click here.
