Tervis Tumblers' CEO Receives Prestigious Award

North Venice, FL, August 21, 2009 - The Florida Institute of CPAs (FICPA) announced that Laura Spencer, CEO of Tervis Tumbler, is their Outstanding CPA in Business and Industry for 2008-2009.  This award is given to CPAs who have shown extraordinary achievements and is designed to promote the CPA designation as the premier professional credential for financial managers.

“I am honored to be receiving this award and to be recognized for my efforts in the industry.  I feel my background as a CPA has helped make me a more conscientious leader, especially during this difficult time in the economy” remarked Spencer.

Spencer, in addition to being CEO, is also a member of the privately held company’s board of directors. Spencer, who has been a member of FICPA since 1989, spent the first eleven years of her career in public accounting before joining Tervis in 1997 as Controller. She was promoted to the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, respectively, before taking the reins as Chief Executive Officer in November 2006.

Tervis Tumbler, a family-owned American company based in N. Venice, Florida has been producing quality drink and serveware since 1946.  Using the insulating properties of air, Tervis’ double-walled tumblers keep hot drinks hotter and cold drinks colder longer than traditional drinkware.  They are also dishwasher-, microwave- and freezer-safe and carry a comprehensive lifetime guarantee.  Over the past several years, Tervis has seen remarkable growth that moves them far beyond their southeastern roots, thank to Spencer’s guidance and the quality of the products they produce.

Mike Pender, President-Elect of FICPA, nominated Spencer for the award and will likely officially present the award to her during their Board of Governors Meeting on September 24th in Ft. Lauderdale.
